The McWalter family will be hosting a “socially distancing” meet. Per Massachusetts guidelines, the meet will be outdoors and we will need to maintain 6 ft apart. We ask that each person bring their own food, beverage, chair, and hand sanitizer as we won’t be able to share dishes. The meet will start at 11am. Please RSVP to Grace at gracemcwalter@aol.com or call (508) 843-8510 to let her know that you’ll be attending so she can plan appropriately.
Admission/donation to the museum is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors over 65, $12 for children 2-12. We understand that admission includes one train ride, if the trains are operating. Additional train ride is $4. Parking is free and we hope to have a good turnout of Hudsons.
In the museum you will see exhibits including trains, cars and trucks as well as railroad china, lanterns, uniforms and a model railroad. The collection continues to expand, so expect to see new items added since our last visit, including “Marco Polo” a special Pullman car which was used by many dignitaries, including President Franklin Roose-velt, and recently donated to the museum by Norfolk Southern Corporation.
Outside there are several locomotives, both diesel and steam, and railcars including passenger coaches, a self-propelled crane and a railway post office.
Lunch arrangements will be informal. There are picnic tables available outside the museum building, so we suggest that you bring your own lunch, or else plan to visit O4W Pizza or some other restaurant of your choice in nearby Duluth.
Directions to the museum: Take the Pleasant Hill Rd exit (Exit 104) off I-85 –this is approximately 6.5 miles northwest of where I-85 N crosses I-285. Head north towards Duluth for 2.4 miles. Merge right on to Buford Highway/US-23N/GA-13. The Museum entrance is approximately 0.2 miles on the left. Take the road which crosses the railroad tracks.
