Always a good turn out. This comes with a lot of options!
1. Come when you can—but come before 12:00 so you can make lunch.
2. Hudsons encouraged—but Brand Xs welcome always!
We don’t always get a chance to display the Hudsons when they're the only Marque there—and the public always seems to enjoy it!
After kicking tires, telling stories and sharing our stories and sharing our Hudsons with the public we’ll go to lunch at a local restaurant. Parking available for Hudsons on the property. For Brand Xs—go to 99 Kings Drive. This school backs up to the Museum and is accessible by turning on to Trevanion Road at the light. Handicapped parking- designated parking on the property.
We will visit this museum (located at 2829 Cherokee St NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144) now greatly expanded. A star exhibit is “The General”, one of the locomotives that took part in the Great Locomotive Chase in 1862, during the Civil War. Other notable exhibits are “Railroads– Lifelines of the Civil War”, “Perspectives of the Civil War”, an exhibit about the Railway Mail Service (and Owney, the
dog who spent its life on trains and was the unofficial mascot of the RMS ) and a replica of the Glover Machine Works in Marietta, where the last steam locomotives to be built in the Southern US were manufactured. Admission to the museum costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (65+), $5 children (3-17). The museum opens at 9:30 AM. Plan to arrive around 10:30 AM and park in the lot behind the museum (Take Shirley Drive, located to the right of the museum—on the side away from the railroad tracks– drive past the museum buildings to the parking lot on the left.)
For those interested, we have arranged for a guided tour of the museum starting at 11 AM. Please buy your admission tickets before the tour .
There are several restaurants and stores close to the museum. A suggested lunch venue (around 12:30 PM) is “The Nest” a few hundred yards up the hill on Cherokee Street. It’s an easy walk from the museum, or there is a parking lot behind the restaurant. After lunch, visit the nearby Frozen Cow Creamery for ice cream, spend some more time in the museum or cross the railroad tracks and wander along Main Street. Hope to see you there– and please bring your Hudson!
Directions:
From I-75 take Exit 271 (approximately 20 miles north of Atlanta) and head west on Chastain Rd , follow signs for Kennesaw/Kennesaw State University. In 1.3 miles turn right on to Big Shanty Drive. In 1.3 miles cross Cherokee St (museum will be on your left) and go straight ahead up Shirley Drive to museum parking lot. Questions/Lost? Call or text Richard Low (404) 606-0958.
