I have a rebuilt 1947 straight eight with the flat oil pan. Seems like I heard someplace you can switch to the stepdown style pan fairly easily. Is it true you can swap oil pickups and pans ?

Roger, in 1948, the Eight block was redesigned to fit into the new Stepdown chassis. the rear flange for the oilpan was widened considerably for a deep rear sump pan. Also the bellhousing bolt pattern on the Stepdown eiight is different from the 47 and earlier cars.
