Before you attempt anything, get two blankets. Lay one of them on the ground under the tail light area of the car, and lay the other one in the area between the bumper and the tail light. The lens is held in by a spring inside the tail light bucket. to remove the lens, you have to push the lens up and in at the top. This will make the bottom edge come out of the bucket... Hold on to the bottom edge of the lens and pull down. It will come out of the bucket. If you drop it, hopefully it will land on the blanket, and not break. FYI, the procedure for headlights is the same. Good luck.
