Does anyone know what the ideal results would be on a compression test on a 1948 Hudson eight cylinder motor? performed a compression test and got results ranging from 30 to 84...im assuming this most likely means I am in dire need of either a valve adjustment or a full blown valve job?

Have you tried a squirt of oil down each spark plug hole & then a remeasure? Will help distinguish between rings & valves!!

I retook the test with a guage that didn't leak and the results were as follows from front of the motor (radiator), to the back. 71, 76, 75, 82, 90, 85, 90, 57...

I'd still do the squirt of oil thing. If the compressions increase after this then the rings are leaking, if not it's valves.
