Question for the folks that know, my 34 Grill surround is mostly painted wondering what kind of metal is underneath then if I should take off the paint and polish it?
Richard, the grill surround is cold rolled steel - just like the rest of your 34's body. The only unique element with the grill surround is that in 1934, Hudson selectively chrome plated the ¾" bead that surrounds the grill opening. Getting this replated is a very challenging exercise for most platers - as they must mask 98% of the shell during the copper, nickel and chrome plating process. In 1935 Hudson, changed the surround design and incorporated a separate piece of stainless trim around the grill opening.
At least one '34 Hudson has the full grill surround plated during restoration. IMO, plating the entire surround detracts from an otherwise perfect front end!

thanks for the response then I won't try to to polish it up. Celebrities well I've got you I'm looking for some headlight stands and headlights do you know of anybody that's sitting on some they might want to get rid of? Or what am I use in place of them thanks
I'll check... I believe I have a set of headlamp shells and bases. I don't believe they have reflectors or lenses...
Jim
