I am looking for a source for a set of 1931 straight 8 pistons and rings for my standard 8 sedan restoration

You could try Egge Machine Co, or JP Pistons, Australia.

I recommend AGAINST using Egge pistons in Hudson 8's - unless they confirm that they have changed the design in the past 15 years! I used these when rebuilding my 1934 H8 and after 1000 miles of low power and excessive oil consumption, removed the head and pistons to find some "funky" wear patterns on the pistons. The skirts showed triangular wear patterns as well as bands of scuffing top to bottom.

Egge was horrible to settle with - and would only agree to replace the pistons... never accepting responsibility for the problem even after I sent multiple emails with detailed photos.

I replaced pistons with units from Dale Cooper and have had zero problems after more than 4500 miles. Call Dale - he knows what works best in our Hudsons.

I have a 31 also with a blown piston and the others with too much play in them. I'm think of just putting a Hudson straight 6 in it and modifying the car, still thinking on it.

Lester Harris has had it with Egge also.
