The massive car show and flea market at Hershey, Pa., is right around the corner: October 10 - 13. And as in past years there'll be an H-E-T presence in and around Hershey on those days, and Sunday the 14th as well.

The H-E-T Club's hospitality trailer will provide hot coffee and doughnuts at space RNE-24-25 in the Red Field of the flea market during all four days of the event. (That's down near the old stadium, in the lot that fronts on Hershey Park Drive.) There are also chairs for relaxing, a bulletin board for leaving messages, and a place to temporarily park items purchased in the flea market. New members can join the Club and existing members renew their memberships at the booth.

Many Hudsonites stay at the Quality Inn, 30 miles west of Hershey in Carlisle, at 1255 Harrisburg Pike (I-81 exit 52 "New Kingdom / Middlesex" or 52B "Middlesex", at the intersection of Rte. 11). The motel offers H-E-T members a discounted rate of $72.99 to $89.99 per night, plus tax. Simply call the Quality Inn at (717) 243-6000 and ask for the Hudson club
discount. Nineteen rooms have been set aside on a first-come, first-served basis. H-E-T volunteers will maintain a hospitality room just off the motel’s front lobby on Friday after 4:00 P.M., and on Saturday afternoon and evening.

A Saturday dinner gathering has been planned for Hudsonites near Carlisle as well. Time is 6 PM, location is Hoss' Steak House, 1151 Harrisburg Pike (rte. 11) just south of its intersection with Pennsylvania Turnpike exit 226. A private room has been secured for our group. No reservations are necessary; you simply show up and "order off the menu".

On Sunday morning, Oct. 14, an all-Hudson flea market will take place in the Quality Inn's rear parking lot from 7:00 A.M. to noon. There is no charge to vendors and no pre-registration is necessary. Hudsonites are invited to bring along accumulations of excess Hudson parts to sell.

Volunteers are urgently needed to staff the Hershey booth on all four days of "Hershey", and nice looking Hudsons are needed for display there. Volunteers have the opportunity to meet Hudson enthusiasts from around the world and to recruit new members to the Club. Those who display their Hudsons at the booth can drive right into the flea market in the morning and out at night, saving parking fees and avoiding a long walk to and from distant lots! Older Club members find that volunteering at the booth is an excellent way to "do Hershey", since they're right in the middle of things without any tiresome walking, and can usually hitch a ride directly to the booth from the Quality Inn in Carlisle in the morning, and home at night.

Hudsons at Hershey was a success this year.

The Saturday evening dinner (now at Hoss' Steak House) attracted 42 Hudsonites -- a larger number than in recent years, especially when one considers that we were in a new venue.

Many Hudsonites renewed their memberships or joined the Club at the booth, at the Hershey flea market. Unfortunately we were a bit short on volunteers for all time periods, but some people stepped forward to fill the gap. Thanks to all who helped at the booth and who displayed their Hudsons at the booth, which is a wonderful way to attract potential members.

The hospitality room continues to be a popular site, at the motel in Carlisle where most Hudsonites stay. There was always a good crowd there, snacking and having a good time.

The flea market took place on schedule in the parking lot behind the motel on Sunday morning, and there were many fine Hudson parts to be had!

Please consider volunteering for the booth next year. As we've said, this is an excellent way for our older members to be able to attend Hershey without having to walk miles (around the flea market, or from a distant parking lot). You can get a ride (or drive your Hudson) right into the booth, spend an enjoyable day conversing with other Hudson enthusiasts and signing up new members, get in a bit of flea marketing if you like, and then get a ride (or drive your Hudson) out at the end of the day. An easy and pleasurable way to help your Club!
