I know I've read this on the old forum a bunch of times but can't find it now. I did the search and it gives me 729 pages to look through. Does anyone remember the color that is a good match for the original in a 53 Hornet? I have an old can of Chrysler "champagne pearl" on the shelf but not sure if that is the best match. Thanks, Richie.

I was told to use VHT metallic gold which I purchased at NAPA. I've seen it a few other places also. I'll try and load up a pic

Thanks Carl. What I have is a light gold, not sure how close it is to the original.

Dupli-Color's 500 degree engine paint (aerosol) in "Universal Gold" is an excellent match to the original color. Available at most parts stores.

Side comment on the paint. It is the best aerosol for old car work that I know of. Have been using it since it came out. You can hardly mark the paint with a screwdriver it is so hard.Think the Ceramic additive does that. If you need semigloss black for chassis, etc it is the best; sorry, I don't like gloss black even when it is original for underhood etc. Try it, it is tough stuff. Beautiful engine, Park. A lot better than the universal gold that mine is painted with.

Park, how does the duplicolor hold up with time and dampness? I have been unhappy with the spray can engine paints I have tried, they look great to start with but quickly lose their luster after some use. This was done with meticulous prep work.
I was considering having some mixed up in Urethane single stage.

That sure looks good Park. I am going to experiment a little, I bought one can of the VHT and one can of the universal gold. I'm going to paint the engine with one brand and the trans with the other brand as long as colors are close. If the colors are not close, I'll choose the one that looks best and go with that. Thanks guys for your help. Richie.

Richie, the Duplicolor finish has done very well, both the gold on the Hornet and the "Aluminum" on the '47. Several thousand miles on the gold now. Another nice thing is that it doesn't seem to change color ... if there's a flaw somewhere, it can be touched up and still match the older coat.

Thanks Carl, that looks great. I'll be glad when I'm that far along.
