On a typical ID tag of the fifties, after the main area for generator type, there's a smaller box with room for a couple of characters. What's this secondary area for . . . what's it telling us?
See photo example.
Month and year of production.
Thanks, Lance. My Swedish friend who asked the question just emailed me that another Swedish Hudson owner had given him this same info.
Park I just ordered one of these tags from Danny Spring a couple of years ago for my spare generator. For those who don't know, the GGW 4801-B is a blue tag on the late 53-54 generator for the 7C and 7D with the 45 amp generator The tag should be blue not black like the 52s or early 53 GDZ6001B. It should match the similar blue oval on the Electric Auto Lite voltage regulator VBE-6104-A that can handle the 45 amp. GGW is embossed on the rear of the generator casing. I never knew of the 5H but I thought it might be the field draw of 5 volts. But Lance may be correct on the month of production. If date of production, what date does 5H denote?
An Autolite date code of "5H" means that it was build in May 1953. For info on Autolite date codes see link.

Thanks much Steve, another mystery solved.
Something more to add to my files. Good info to have.
