1. Will all of the posts and threads from the old forum be moved over to this forum?

2. Will all of the photos from the old forum be moved over to this forum?

3. Will all of the posts from the old forum be searchable on this new forum?

4. If someone has created links to posts on the old forum will those links still work? Will they have to all be redone and point to the location of the old post on this new forum before they will work?

Thanks for any thoughts on this. Rob

[strike]"Yes" to questions 1, 2 and 3. That is to say, all of the posts and stuff from the HUDSON forums (and a couple of the other ones)have been moved here. But the GM, Ford, and other forums will fade into nothingness...[/strike]
No to 1, 2, and 3. Go to [b] http://forum.hetclub.org/ [/b]

Probably "no" to question 4, since part of the link would be "Classiccar.com", which will probably now redirect to Classicars, the company that purchased Classiccar.com. But, go ahead and try your old link and find out. Classiccar.com forum is still open, but I don't think you can post anything over there anymore.

As you probably know, the old Classiccar.com Hudson forum now resides at: [url= http://forum.hetclub.org/ ][/url] That forum is not this one...

I am finding that when I do a search using my user name the only topic that comes up is this topic. Its looking like the search function only searches items that have been started on this new forum.

Also if I click on the "my topics" tab at the top of the page, the only topic that comes up is this thread. It looks like it doesn't bring up all of my topics from the past. I used to use the my topics feature quite a bit to locate photos that I have uploaded in the past.

Maybe I am missing something on how this works on the new forum.

Thanks for your help. Rob

As it stands right now, it will not be combined with this forum anytime in the near (or mid-term) future. They are still 'separate' forums, so any search here will not provide any information on the other (former classiccar.com) forum.
[strike]You may be right (about it's "resetting" when it arrived here at Hetclub.org.)[/strike]

I'm sure, if there's an answer to this, Aaron will jump in here with it!

[strike]Until then, I can only think that possibly the "new" forum's search feature is so shaken up by the move to Hetclub.org, that it's collecting itself and trying to recall all the stuff it used to remember in the old place. (That's kind of a non-technical answer, isn't it!) I did attempt a search or two, using the "new" forum's search engine, and it turned up a number of postings.[/strike]

Maybe in the long run this will work out for the best, having our own HET club forum, and not being "guests" at someone else's forum. 🙂

I can't see anything but good coming from this change-over. It may, in the long run, prove to be a magnet that draws new members into the club. That's got to be a positive.
I think all the problems that arise with a major move will be ironed out sooner or later. We can't expect perfect from the get-go, tho Aaron is working on it.

Hudsonly,
Alex B

I agree with you completely Alex. I think this is going to be a wonderful forum. I am bringing to attention things I think are quite important for the long term usefulness of the old posts.

I noticed that when I opened the cost estimate quote on the forum titled "Cost estimated to make more hi-speed rear axle gear" ,that it was too small to read. I have also noted that the other pics I have opened are also small. Is there some way to make them open larger? Thanks. Rob

Rob, I think the larger answer is that the old classiccar forum is being maintained on the server but as a separate instance accessed at forum.hetclub.org. That means it is a sub domain. Basically the entire forum resides in a directory on the server and has its own database. There is no physical connection between this forum and the forum.hetclub.org. The benefits: anyone can join the "Open forum" at forum.hetclub.org. Rick Clark is administrating the users, topics, etc. (everything). The users are separate from the club site (this forum) which is linked to the member database.
The big question is and will be, do we, should we, will we ever integrate the forum.hetclub.org into this forum. The open forum could be exported and then imported into this one. Once I get all the issues fixed with the move, still battling CRON jobs not running and Paypal IPNs not loading, I want to see if we can establish a Club Internet Presence board, basically Club members who are maintaining portions of the site to make decisions about the site. Opening this forum up to the general web exposes us to a lot more work protecting against spammers. We avoid those issues by making folks join the club and then create an account. I haven't had one spammer willing to even join the limited online access option to get access, so that has worked out well. Much to do.

Aaron

Rob,

If you have a mouse with one of those little wheels on it, you can magnify the page by merely rotating the wheel with your finger while holding down the CTRL keyboard button with your other finger. There is probably a provision for enlarging the page on your web browser control, but I don't know which one you're using.

Thanks for your reply Aaron. I think you are working very hard to help the HET folks and we are very lucky to have you on our side.

I didn't realize what open forum meant and didn't realize we had two forums running at the same time. Your reply helps a lot. Now I wonder which forum to use and which one most other HET folks will use. Will we end up jumping back and forth to keep up with all of the latest goings on? It really has become confusing in some ways. I'm sure it will all get sorted out in time.

I tried rolling the button on the mouse while holding down the control key and it does seem to enlarge the pic allright. I don't think it takes advantage of the clarity built into the pic when it is done that way though. The old way, when you enlarged the pic by clicking on it the larger pic was still very clear. This way it doesn't seem to be. Just my observation anyway. Rob

My own "take" on the future of the two forums: the H-E-T forum (the one that's been at the H-E-T website for two or three years now) will become the dominant one, due to its many categories or sub-forums. (Some people find this confusing, but just look at all the forums out there -- automotive and otherwise -- they each have many, many categories.) Both H-E-T Club and non-Club members can use this for free, and we are somewhat shielded from stupid spammers and occasional dingbats.

The "open forum" (old Classiccar.com forum) will be our "public face", our "showroom window" which anyone on the internet can view (unlike the other forum) and in which it is pretty simple to register.

So, if you're a "regular", you'll spend most of your time on the H-E-T forum, and glance over on the "open forum" once in awhile to see if any newbies or strangers have stumbled in with Hudson questions or possibly (we hope) spare parts! Many of us have been glancing at both forums for several years now, anyway.
