I am working on a 53 Hudson hornet for a guy, would like to know if any one can tell me a little about the car, and what the code said the car should be color and interior? the vin is 7B146360. how can I tell if the interior has been replaced? It shows 42k but it looks really good in side, no wear at all. It has been stored for 8 years, in side.
Thanks Gene
'53 had blue or green interiors. I'd have to see the interior to tell you if it was correct or not. If you have original paint, the mark for the paint code may still be on the inside of the passenger door frame. It would have been somewhere above the VIN tag, I think.
If the Vin starts with a 7B, It's a 52. 7= Hornet A=51, B=52,C=53 and D=54 Sorry I am not an expert on the interior colors for your car. Someone will chime in...
Oh! A '52! Heh. Now I know what 7B stands for! A '52 Hornet would have had a brown or blue interior.

The original exterior paint code was stamped into the right hand front upper door hinge. Very few survived the usual rust in that area. 54 was an exception. Hudson used a "paint" stamp on the vin tag. That "Might" survive.
On the subject of interior colors.. Once upon a time, I had a very nice original 53 Super Wasp that had a green interior but had a red exterior. UGH!!! Other wise, Was a damn nice car to drive.
Under the heading of useless (maybe) but interesting trivia;
Serial Number 146360, according to the info I have, was built in Feb. 1952. There were 6,797 cars built that month. Out of 70,000 cars shipped in 1952 35,926 were Hornets. No break-out of body style, however.
Hudsonly,
Alex B
thanks guys for all of the info. I will take some pictures and post them, maybe can find out who owed the car and where it came from.

If any previous owners bothered to register your car with the Club, it will be on the registry for that particular year. To learn who keeps the registry, click on INFO at top of this page, then choose from the drop down menu, "VEHICLE REGISTRIES".
I have only had my '53 for 3 days but the interior is new and suppose to be exact original type fabric
I have a 53 sedan also.
The interior looks a lot like mine. Which I believe was original considering it was well worn. I found the material at S&S Fabrics
Here are some pictures of this hornet I am working on, two days ago like all Hudson, it came to life, runs like a top, we are now rebuilding carbs changing rear end grease, transmission fluid all ready put plugs points wires.

The outside looks like French Gray over Toro Red. The car is a '52, but the Twin-H Power badge on the trunk is '53 only. The tires and rims aren't correct for the car. The car has a brown steering wheel, but it looks like the turn signal and gear shifter knobs are from a car with a blue interior. Can't be for sure, but it looks like the glovebox is from a blue car, also? And the glovebox door sitting on the back seat is for a '51. I've heard about Hudson offering a red leather interior, but I don't think that's what's in this car. I'm going to say this car originally had a brown interior, but someone monkeyed with it at some point.
But maybe I'm wrong? I know precious little about the leather interiors.
I just noticed the instrument panel is from a '51! I've heard about Hudson putting leftover ones in the cheapie model '52s, but I don't think it's right for this car.
