Hello HET forum, I am a new member and a new owner of a 29 super six that has a flat tire. I have never taken apart a wooden wheel to get the tube out before, and wanted to know if there is anything I should be extremely careful about so as to avoid damaging anything or inflicting personal injury. Looked on youtube but found no instructional videos. Any help is greatly appreciated. Bill

Hi Bill, the best thing for you to do is get a copy of Geoff Clark's DVD demonstrating the removal from a split rim. He (or David Young) may chip in on this thread with details on how to get a copy. Rim spreaders are useful if the rims are out of shape but definitely not good for the split rims if over used - following Geoff's instructions you hardly ever need to use one!
Good luck as when you have done it a few times it becomes quite easy 🙂

Hi Bill
As Alistair suggested, Geoff Clark has made a DVD of a tech session presented at the 2009 Centennial HET National Meet on "Fitting Tires to Split Rims" covering the 28 Essex, 29 Hudson & 30 Hudson. He generously gave the NZ HET Club permission to duplicate this DVD & sell it as a fund raiser for the New Zealand Club. The Club sells them for US$17.00 including postage. The easiest way to pay is by PayPal to me at David@websters.co.nz & I'll airmail you a copy & also include a copy of Geoff's article on taking the tension out of your split rim.
