Hi, I want to replace the gaskets on the valve covers of my 53 Superwasp. I'm sure the best way is to remove the inner fender. I have removed about 12 bolts and the inner fender is loose but doesn't want to come out. Is there a trick to getting this out? I guess I can replace the gaskets from the top but would like to be able to get a better look at the valves while I am doing this. Thanks for any advice. Dave
Yeah, adjusting the valves, or in your case, replacing the valve cover gaskets, is one of the big PITA jobs on a Stepdown.
Do you have the front end jacked up and the wheel off? That’s the only way I have been able to get the inner fenders out. You also have to remove the diagonal brace that goes from the frame to the firewall. Then drop the fender down, tilt the top towards the engine, and lift and pull out the bottom of the fender.
