I am beginning a project to reupholster the seats on my 1949 Hudson Super Six sedan.  I have carefully disassembled the rear seat cushion for prototyping.  My question is about the padding structure.  The best I can tell, the original padding was built from a 3" thick lamination of cotton batting over a layer of burlap all wrapped and glued with a thin gauze.  The padding not only covers the seat top but also wraps down the sides and front of the seat cushion to the bottom of the spring frame.  My current plan is to start with a burlap cover over which I will lay and glue 2" high density foam, 1" polyester cushion wrap, and then 1/4" sew foam.  The sew foam has a thin lattice on the back which provides strength for hog rings to the spring frame.

Is there anyone with experience doing this on a Hudson seat frame?  Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!

I would like to follow this because I need to do the same. My car was full of mice before I bought it and it smells terrible.

Hi Chad...yes, this should be an interesting project. I've bought enough material to do a prototype on my rear seat cushion. I have a feeling I'll be doing this more than once! I'll keep the post updated with my progress.
