The shop manual mentions tool 2955 for the main/rear bearing cap removal, can anyone out there suggest an alternative tool? Thank you, Kevin Morrow

I just pry it out, carefully while knocking it back and forth with a rubber or plastic mallet.

Can't get to my books, now, but sketch is from memory.  Hope it helps.

Thanks Dany, my jet engine experience always requires the correct tool, however, on occasion, one needs to improvise. Kevin Morrow

Insert a cap screw in the sump bolt hole in the bottom of the bearing cap and using a pinch bar or claw hammer, lever the cap down.

Thank you Sir. I was able to gently pry out bearing caps with very small thin screw driver. Now for the valve train. The shop manual mentions special tools, however I feel I will have to improvise. Kevin Morrow

I am down to the valve train on my 1951 262 teardown. That being said, the shop manual  recommends a Kent Moore tool KMO-484 valve spring compressor. This tool is long gone, can anyone recommend a suitable tool to be purchased at a local auto parts store that would accomplish the same thing? Thank you, Kevin Morrow
