I just had my 1946 hudson truck delivered, and although a half way decent looking truck from 20 feet away, it was severely misrepresented from the dealership I bought it from. The front of hood has severe damaged where it it hinges on left and right front. Is this a common problem? Any body out there have a hood? The carter carburetor which I think is WDO 501S was rebuilt by the said dealership with rebuild kit I sent them, however, it is puffing carbon monoxide like a stove pipe. Anyone out there have a properly rebuilt carburetor? Thank you in advance, Kevin
Kevin, Not to pour cold water on your purchase, but I would never buy a used vehicle without having someone inspect it first, whether it is a club member or inspection company like https://www.automobileinspections.com who will send a qualified inspector with a "several pages" inspection list that will cover everything.
Pictures are not enough as too many things remain hidden and most of the dealerships don't know beans about these vehicles, only profits.
As far as the smoking goes, you might want to send the carb out to a company like https://daytonaparts.com. They have a test stand and actually run the carb before sending it back out. I have used them many times, never disappointed.
I would advise doing a compression check on each cylinder to determine if you have a ring issue.
Can you post a picture of the hood damage?
Kerry, thanks for your response. I will get my wife to down load a photo of hood. Additionally, the rebuild kit came from Daytona, however the man who rebuilt the carb. at the dealership I bought the truck had problems with the rebuild... choke, idle, missing fast idle cam on carb. I will take your advice, and send entire carb to them. The truck as a whole is not bad looking, I am most upset about the hood, which may be difficult to repair, and far more difficult to find another hood. I called the Hudson Guru, Al Saffron in Arizona, and doesn't even have any hoods. Thanks, Kevin Morrow
Kevin, where are you located?
Milton, Delaware, close to the beaches.
IF you are new to the HUDSON Pickup and have limited experience it would be wise to contact Larry Cramer. He is the 1946-47 Hudson Pickup registry manager for the Hudson Club. His contact information is: 518-863-2628 cramerlp@roadrunner.com
I did so, thank you very much.
