For my 1953 Hornet: as the subject line says, the letters on the inside of the glass of the instruments is beginning to peel at the edges, e.g., the “E” and “F” on the fuel gauge, etc. Is there a DIY fix, or should I send it to a speedometer specialist? If so, who?
Here is a link to reproduction glass on ebay.
There is a vendor on ebay under item #124917920101 that is selling reproductions.
That link worked. Thank you. And only $49!
I ordered from them and the first one was so sloppy that the instrument repair guy (Ron at Williamson's Instruments in Chester AR) refused it.
Seller sent another one with an apology, though he did send it to the wrong address.
I received an instrument glass with lettering last week. It looks pretty good to me.
is the glass flat or are the letters recessed? If they are recessed you can use a model paint marker and fill in the letters. Then use a razor blade to scrap excess paint off. I did this to my dads 37 plymouth 20yrs ago and it has held up perfectly.
I haven’t removed the panel yet, but the lettering is peeling up, so it looks like flat glass to me. If it was etched, I would repaint it, but it wouldn’t have peeled in the first place.
