auto transmission Identification I have a1954 Hornet with a 4 speed auto

Trying to find   correct shop manual my 4 speed has a  neutral for a park LOL ! i remember my uncle said that the Hudson Transmission shop burned down in the 50S? thanks for reading my post!

First off, it is a General Motors Hydramatic transmission, sold to Hudson by GM. Yes the GM Hydramatic plant burnt down in October 1953. Was not back up and running until Jan 1954. Neutral is not used for parking, instead you place the selector in Reverse after shutting off the engine to lock the transmission, but first you should fully apply the parking brake. ALWAYS put the selector in Neutral before attempting to start the engine! Make sure your Neutral Safety Switch is adjusted and functioning as it should, ie: only allowing the starter to engage when selector is in Neutral. Manuals can be downloaded here:

Thank you Kenneth got the engine rebuilt I,m figuring out how to remove trans from 54 block installing 52 block with a 262 head !

Small addition. It should be a “dual range” Hydramatic.
