Do the firewall insulation and/or heater need to come out in order to remove the bolted in transmission cover (1950 Commodore 6)?

No, on the insulation. And I don't think so on the heater. There are four 1/4" fine threaded screws across the top edge. If you can get to them, the heater can stay. The brake pedal goes through a hole in the floor cover. I've seen a lot of these covers cut away with chisels or tin snips, to allow the trans cover to come out. Much better to remove the pedal, and not have to deal with a Mickey Mouse patch job when you go to put it back together.

Thank you Dany. I was wondering what to do about that brake pedal.

Just thought of something else... A lot of times the mounting clips break. You can buy new ones from Restoration Specialties in Winber, Pa. Part number is 2231. They were around $1.50 each, I think.
