Best way to put a new knob on the control arm thru the dash. Would the best bet be to use a c clamp? Can't push it on by hand. Thanks.

Why don't you ask Gregg Eshelman? I assume you bought the knob from him? The shaft should have fine splines on it. Measure the outer diameter of these splines with a dial caliper. It may be necessary to drill the bore on the back of the knob slightly larger be be able to press it over the shaft splines.
