A few years back someone in the HET CLUB said that he worked on early Continental air plane engines and said that the early engines valve lifters would work in the big -6 hudson engines? Does anyone in the club remember this one ?
The hydraulic lifters used in the 1956 308 motors were manufactured by Continental, at least the hydraulic plunger parts were. The plungers are virtually identical to the Packard L head eight hydraulic lifter plungers with the difference being the oil pickup tube on the bottom is about 1/8" shorter on the Hudson version. New Packard plungers are available, you can turn the 1/8" off the oil tubes and use them in the 1956 Tappets. The Continental aircraft engine hydraulic lifters are not directly usable in the 56 Hudson 308. Neither are the ones form the Cadillac and Lincoln flathead V8's.
