I have a locked up 254 straight eight in my 50 commodore. 3spd manual car. I found a 53 262 six that I would like to swap in. Engine mounts useable? I have a 51 parts car with a 262 I can pull stuff from if needed. Does the 53 engine have the same crankshaft studs as the 50 engine?

Motor mounts for the Stepdown Sixes and Eights are the same. Radiator mounting brackets on the eights are flipped to mount the radiator about 1-1/2" further forward. Stepdown 10" flywheels are the same for the 1948-52 Eights and 1948-54 sixes. 1955-56 308 flywheels do not interchange with the earlier cars.

Don, the accelerator linkages are different, but should be transferable. The exhaust will be different and needs changed, odds are it needs replaced anyway. Trans, starter, flywheel, clutch- used from your original 8 cyl., engine mounting, all the same,  When moving the Rad. mounting brackets like Ken described, you will need a tin filler piece between the radiator and grille.  If you use the 8 radiator,-[4 core]- have it re-cored or buy a new radiator.  If you have the radiator re-cored, doubtful you will need the filler tin cover in frt. of rad.  Hope this helps!

Thanks Doug! That’s probably a good idea on the radiator. I have a good shop for that I’ve used before. Any info always helps! -Don
