Just delivered today! My dad has a 41 and i finally got one to match.
Looks pretty promising! Welcome to the group, feel free to pester us with technical questions. (On the other hand, your dad, being a Hudson Man, will probably have most of the answers!)
Michael, this looks to be a '47, No? Are you leaving the finish like it is?. Welcome to Hudsonnuts.com!
Thanks all. Not sure yet what path to take. Enjoying day by day.
Maybe you could just get it running and enjoy it as-is. That could give you some idea of how you want to proceed.
When I bought my Terraplane (50 years ago!) I just got it running, slapped a bad coat of paint on it, painted all the chrome white and started driving it. Over the years I gradually upgraded it, as my income would permit. It runs fine now, but there are still a lot of rough edges. A work-in-progress, but the main thing is, "keep it fun".
Fun is the plan. Unfortunately the.engne is locked. A local junk yard has a 308. Something to think about.
Does it still possess the Original engine?. Hudson Big 6 conversion is very common. A few mods to the eng, install a S/D bell-housing on the O.E. trans. for the most part is all thats required.
All original...i was able to locate a 308-6 at a local junk yard. Unsure where to take the project
So my dad put this on the car for me....naturally it snowed immediately after.
Torn on resto or hot rod.
Michael, if it helps, changing everything to create a resto-mod can be time consuming and costly. If you simply removed the O.E. engine, and installed the 308 or even a 262, keeping the stick, you only will need to change the frt. brake backing plates and drums to the senior Step-down 11x2 brakes, which bolt right on, and a different radiator and exhaust. We usually just make a short exhaust system that exits in front of the right rear wheel. A slight modification to the block to create clearance for the steering gear. Doing it this way allows you to keep all the same shift linkage, clutch should be changed to a 10", same clutch linkage and even the same position for the trans to mount. You can keep the O.E. rear axle, as it will work just fine. If you convert to 12V, again, relative simple. Just be careful not to pull and tug on the OE wiring, as it will break the insulation off and compromise the integrity. It is not uncommon for a few wires to require repairing, again very simple. We have done numerous of these conversions and have had great fun with all. Hope this helps you decide, Hudsonly Doug
So after much deliberation ive decided this is not the one to restore and i will be frame swapping it. Ill be on the prowl for a 30s model to keep all original.
Just wondering, the body looks very solid from that picture, why not restore?
As one that has restored different vehicles over the years (rotisserie restorations)
The condition of the body especially the amount of rust or lack thereof, is far more important
then the drive train as far as cost and man hours.
Its more interior and chrome and other incidentals
and the fact that i want to drive this sooner than later.
on that note im looking for a 37 business coupe...to restore
Would you be interested in selling the 47 coupe ?
Not at this time. Ill save all the original parts incase i do sell
