I've had quite a few cars from the 1950's but always put new crate engines in them. This Hudson will always remain stock with the 308 engine, however I cannot buy leaded gas in California. What are you all using an additive to the 91 octane fuel? Thanks!

I use Valvoline VR-1 "racing" oil for the added zinc as a sacrificial metal. In my gas I put Sta-Bil to help counteract the ethanol. I use the highest octane necessary to eliminate ping and achieve slightly higher compression. I have never used leaded gas and the '53 is happy and healthy.
Adam, thank you for your reply. As a new Hudson owner, I want to use the best products for my car. I find (2) options .... are you using full synthetic or mineral oil?

With regard to STA-BIL, are you using their 360°® Protection™ or their STA-BIL® Fuel Stabilizer?
Thanks,
Howard
I use part no. 822388 for 10W-30 if it's going to be really cold, and no. 822401 for 30W.
For Sta-Bil, I usually use the regular red stuff at each fill-up, although lately I've been getting the blue Sta-Bil Marine. It's more expensive but you use less of it (so it works out to costing the same as the red stuff) but it has the added benefit of coating the inside of the fuel tank. It's also (supposedly) better about suppressing ethanol's ability to attract water vapor, so I like to think it will help keep my tank from rusting.
