I have a “later” style 308 engine that I want to bolt to my 1950 3spd setup. This has bolts that held the flexplate on. I’m told I need a spacer or special flywheel. Do earlier 308’s have studs on crank flange, or what do I have to do? Are all 308 cranks the same?
Okay, I found some answers. I’m looking for a 1951-54 crankshaft, anyone help?
Hello Don, we have what you need, just kind a hard to ship!! Where are you located?. You will also need to change the front and rear support plate, plug the oil dipstick hole in the middle of the block, and drill the boss where the dipstick for a step-down goes. We use a bushing driver-[very small]- to drive the dipstick riser from its current location, and then re-installed in the back location. Pay close attention to the depth of the dipstick riser. It does NOT drive down as far as in the later block. Use the riser to determine the drill size. If you compare your step-down block oil dipstick boss to the later '55-'56 block you will see what I'm talking about. The boss is there, BUT it is not the same height in casting, so install accordingly, so the standard dipstick will read correctly once installed. Hope this helps.
