Getting ready to install new headliner in my 50 Pacemaker coupe. I've read what I could find about it, although could not find anything on how it attaches in the sail panel/package shelf area. Car didn't have a headliner when I got it. Anyone have any advice on this? Also what should the package shelf panel look like?
Thanks.
Dave
We took the back window out in my '51 coupe to replace the headliner. As far as I know that is the only way to do it, but perhaps somebody has come up with a better solution. I did the package tray out of the same vinyl used as trim on the door panels. Don't know if that is original but that's what I came up with.
Yes, I have my back glass & windshields out. Doesn't it attach in the package tray area?
Thanks
Dave
It's been close to 20 years since I did my car and I honestly don't remember for sure but I think that the headliner attaches underneath the package tray perhaps with a tack strip. I'm sure that someone will give you a better answer. Time and too many projects has dimmed my memory. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Okay, this morning I had an extra set of hands available and was able to get a good look at the rear headliner. The rubber gasket holds the headliner in place. On my car we ran the headliner about 2" longer than the window/gasket. The package tray was made about 1 1/2 inches deeper in order for it to slope up toward the back window securing the headliner behind it and giving about a 3/4" reveal. We tried to get a clear picture to post but it came out too blurred to be of any use, but I think that my description will be clear enough for you to get the general idea (I hope). BTW my car is a 1951 Pacemaker Club Coupe and I think the back window is a little different from a 1950.
