I need help in the "how to" on my 1950 Pacemaker Coupe. I have a broken lower hinge pin on the passengers side door. Are new pins available anywhere?? Also, there is a plate blocking the upper hinge pins from being removed and replaced. How does a person put a new pin on that hinge? The doors are sagging and I want to re-do all the hinges. I have access to a machine shop, so making new pins is not a problem, if I have to. Is there a "factory" way of removing the hinges and pins for replacement? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, KEN
Those "cover" plates/straps had screws holding them in place. Remove and it gives access to the hinge.

There was a hinge pin tool but I haven't seen one in years, Just drive the old pin out from the under side.
I have made my own pins on the several I have replace.
Thanks for the reply. I am used to GM, Ford style hinges which pins are easier to get to. I will remove the hinge completely, if that's what is necessary. I don't see any screws holding the plate, which is within 1/2" of the top of the pin. I'll see if I can get a pic. Thanks, KEN
Ken, we use old valves with 11/32nds stems. This is slightly larger and allows you to ream both the halves to the next size. Buy a 11/32nds reamer-about $34.00 from Mcmaster-Carr. Cut the valve stems with a cut-off wheel right where the stem starts to get wider, use that at the top and cut off as needed. If you have a lathe, you can also cut/grind the groove like original for oil/lube. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies. I have removed the hinges and have machine shop access to make new ones. All is well. Thanks again. KEN
