The car has been converted to 12V, negative ground. Looking for help/suggestions on the installation of water temp, oil pressure, and fuel level gauges. The oil pressure and water temp seem pretty straight forward on the 308, but not the fuel level gauge for the stock tank on the '46. Any specifics on the fuel level sender would be greatly appreciated. For example, do the stock 6 mounting screw spacings vary like on the old Fords and is there an adapter available that works to install what specific sender? I saw one thread about a VW sender, but it concerned operation more than installation. Anyway, just starting and will probably do the oil pressure and water temp first as maybe the tank should come out at this point for some maintenance as well. Thanks in advance for your time. Chuck
The fuel sender and gauge don't care about voltage. They work on resistance. (ohms) 12 volts is fine.
Polarity doesn't matter either with the stock system. If you do end up mixing senders with other gauges, there is a product call Gauge Wizard that will allow you to use any sender with any gauge and make it read properly. It works with fuel or temperature systems.
Thanks guys for the info. However, I'm really more interested in just adding a fuel level gauge along with the water temp and oil pressure in a mounting under the dash for now rather than spending a bunch of money and time trying to get the original sender and gauge rebuilt and working. I think the sender is in bad shape and the car is not a high end restoration, just a nice driver, but in need of a lot of basic work as you can tell from my pictures. Thanks again.
