Hi,
Does anyone have a picture of the 1937 pickup bed optional tool box door? It is the locking doors at the front of the bed on the removable tool boxes. I am making new bed parts for my ’37 and would like to install the doors too.
Thank you,
John

Hi,
My 37 truck bed is almost complete but would like to add the doors before it gets done. Any help with a picture of the door would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks, John

Hi Kerry,
I used 13ga cold rolled steel. The metal is the same as the original bed. Just formed up the sheet with the same pattern as the original. I made the bed exactly the same, so you cannot tell it from the original. Just new.
Thanks, John

Now you have my curiosity up, I could not find anyone to form the floor metal, where are you located? I don't see it on your profile?

Hi John,
Very nice sheet metal work!

Kerry Dancy recently finished a nice restoration of a '37 pickup, so he may well be a great source to tap for any knowledge points/areas.

I've gone through quite a few pictures online but haven't found any bed side 'tool box' that had doors on them (locking or otherwise).

BTW - Do you know what that the purpose is for the square opening in the bed floor (near the left-rear wheel well)? It appears to be pretty standard for all 36(?)-39 Hudson pickups -

Hi Rick,
I think it is for the access to the fuel tank. Maybe the sending unit. I have not got to the point of installing to see for sure and it was apart when I got the truck. But I wanted to keep it original so I left it in.
Thanks, John

Thanks John, that's what I suspect as well - looks like it is closer to the fuel tank fill line than the sending unit (at least on the '39), but probably provides access to both.

FYI - There is a nice write-up in 'Vintage Truck' (August 2004) of a two-tone 1937 Terraplane pickup - it is also the 'cover truck' that month too. Back issue is still available from the publisher, $5.00 (includes shipping)

I pulled my copy of the magazine, and looked thru the article - it has a smaller picture of the bed with storage boxes, no doors on them that I can see...

As somewhat of a coincidence, it's younger brother (similar color profile) was also a cover truck in December 1999, when the publication was known as 'This Old Truck' -

(I am the current owner of the '46 Hudson pickup shown on that 1999 cover.)

Just a thought, John:

Have you asked Larry Cramer, the fellow who keeps the registry of all known post- and pre-war Hudson trucks, if there is a '37 truck owner in your vicinity? If so, you could get a phone number, and contact the owner. Then, maybe go over and measure the thing.

The "regulars" here on the forum (either of the two forums) represent only a portion of the Hudson club members, so it's quite possible there are '37 truck owners who are not online and haven't read or responded to your message.
