This is a continuation of my topic earlier in the year. 52 hornet 4dr. 4 speed hydramatic. At that time wouldn't go forward, only back. I finally turned front band adjustment between 1/4 and 1/2 turn and viola, drove forward. 1st to 2nd shift is great. 2nd to 3rd is quite slippy.. 3rd to 4th is great. I've tried a little more on the band to no effect. Has new fluid but car did sit in garage for almost 45 years. Is there any hope??? Any additives that might help and not hurt.. I might just change fluid again for the heck of it thanks

I would take the time to call Gus Sousa in Chicago area. Although he has quit rebuilding these transmissions. He is a corner stone of information on WHO WHAT WHY WHEN and HOW they work or do not. He spent time at one of the national meets discussing the Hydramatic transmission and its foibles. Some of what he said could only have been learned by experience... and that he has. Sorry I do not have his phone number... but look at the HET Membership listing and it should be there. Good LUCK

Important: check the trans fluid level. Insufficient fluid will cause the bands to slip. If you drive the car with slipping bands, you will burn them and then need to rebuild the tranny. If you drained the old fluid and put it new fluid, it may not have refilled the fluid coupling torus. Recheck the fluid level and refill as necessary. If it’s good, then you’re probably looking at a rebuild.
