Got tired of wondering whether car behind me would see my tail lights... Installed a quality LED light bar along the top of the rear horse collar that attracts much more attention. I made a custom bracket to hold the LED and secured it to the original license plate lamp screws. Fit almost looks factory (10 feet away) but the priority is function.
The LED serves as brake light, turn signal indicator, and running light. The LED flashes in unison with either turn signal light (installed two diodes in order to achieve this function without bleeding current over to the opposite turn signal light).
Huge improvement! Thought I'd share,,,(btw, car is 12V negative ground). Picture below shows running lights at night. Great $38 investment if it helps avoid rearender!

Great add on for safety!
Have approx. 300 LEDs behind the bumper for additional rear running lights
Richard--I like it. Curious whether the LEDS change color and/or amplify when the brake lights fire?
Kerry ---Yes sir safety is especially important now ---seems nearly every other car in CA is barreling down the road with a distracted cell phone junkie behind the wheel (anything but a driver).
No change in LED intensity; these just added behind bumper.
Another system for brake lights, turn signals, & hazard lights.

Nice system Richard! Thanks for sharing.
You could also put the same light in rear window. Info should be in video description.
Note that it blinks in stages and then goes solid since it is illegal to have auto blinking red lights.
Energ. Cars only.
+1
i would also recommend putting a 3rd brake light higher up, such as in the rear window - i have that set up in 3 low collector cars - today's suv's and trucks may not see brake lights down low - hope this helps
Richard, I like that and the price is great too. I may have missed you saying what model LED bar and where you bought it. Please share or repeat that info.
Thanks, PK
Info was under the Video in info.
got it here>>>> https://www.brakelighter.com/brakelighter-12v-antique-car-3rd-light-p/tl-12.htm
not cheap tho. Around $53. as I remember: 12V but I think they now have 6 Volts. you will have to find out.
ICs for "wild" blinking from stock lights here>> https://tinyurl.com/yb4qtkkt
Think you needed one for each brake lite BUT have forgotten on the IC installation
EDIT: each stock turn signal bulb to feed the bar turn signals !!! You only get the stock flasher flashes unless you add the 2 IC's
Lites behind bumper was about $15.-20. on eBay for 300 Red LED sealed string.
Richard, thanks. The first link in the thread didn't work for me, but the latest one you sent did. They are up to $60 now, which I still consider cheap for good safety lighting. Like Brad recommended, I plan to mount something high, probably inside the top of the rear window, for better visibility for SUVs and pickup trucks, whose latest grilles are getting higher and more obnoxious. The latest Chevy pickup trucks have a grill that looks like the face on the alien in the old Arnold Schwarzeneggar movie, "Predator."
As you noted, they now offer the Brakelighter in 6V, although my car is converted to 12v, so that's what I will look for.
