Installed the new rope type rear main seal in my rebuild. There seems to be more drag while turning the crank than I expected.. I loosened the rear cap and the crank spins more freely. I checked bearing clearances with plastigauge prior to installing the seal and all were virtually the same. I thought I followed the instructions doing the install. Is this normal? any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, with my limited experience considered, I think you're fine. A new seal that hasn't been run yet will be a little tight, which is a good thing to ensure a tight seal. I swear by the new rope type seal over the neoprene lip style. The one you are using is the best, I believe.

Did you put some assembly lube on the seal and crank surface before dropping the crank in and bolting up the caps? It shouldn't be dry!

Yes I put oil on per instructions. Seems to be better the more I rotate the crank.
