Polarizing (flashing) a generator

I recently acquired a 40 Hudson coupe. The battery is currently hooked up as negative ground but everything works fine. At least as far as I know. Should I hook it back up as positive ground? If so, what do I need to do other than just swapping cables? I was told I would need to flash the generator. What are the steps required for that?
Anything else I should know?

Below is how to flash your genny when connected normally in a positive ground 6v system.

In your shop manual under "electrical" 6-9

To polarize the generator, ground the field terminal
to the frame and touch the armature lead briefly to
negative terminal of the battery.

Seems simple enough. Thanks.
