Blower Motor Reassembly?

I'm not sure how to re-assemble the blower motor on a '55. The Delco motor is a split case, with the brush access only available when the armature is removed. How do I keep the brushes retracted when I push the two case halves back together? I'm considering using thread looped around the brush leads, accessed thru the tie-rod holes, but the geometry isn't ideal. Any ideas? Delco PN 5047820
Thank you!
Jon

I solved this issue by drilling 2 small (1/16") holes on either side of the brush carrier, then threaded fishing line thru the holes and across the brush assembly. I used masking tape to secure the ends. This served to retract the brushes for reinserting the armature. After motor assembly, I pulled the lines out and used JB Weld to patch the holes. Case closed.
