Hudson Acrylic Color Formula

Hello from Germany!

Some of you already know me from the facebook group. I am restoring a 1948 Commodore 6, which has some Rust and has been painted white.

And here is the problem already. White was never available for those cars. And the paintjob is pretty bad. Plus I like original. While disassembling I found original paint leftovers, which appear to be a dark green. The passenger side hinge has an "8" and some Rust stamped as color code. I assume the car was P8, Pacemaker Green, DAL-40835.

Unfortunately I and the german color stores are unable to get a formula for this color. And there is not enough left on the car to decode it.

Can you guys help me with some formula? Otherwise I would go on eBay and look for some 1949 paint chips.

Thanks,

Fabian

Try looking on the Auto Color library web site Autocolorlibrary.com They show the color chart for your color and they should be able to mix some for you.

Thx Tom,

That's where I found the name of the color. I just had the greenish leftovers in the car and the "8" stamped in.

Doesn't help me if they can mix it, because a non-company person in Germany is not allowed to buy classic acrylic laque. Only water based shit. Furthermore the paint won't pass customs. I am not even sure If american customs will clear it for export, as it is hazardous material.

That's why i am asking for a formula to have a EU company mix it and a friend, who has a car paint shop, buy it for me.

Just imagine, your VHT engine enamel for example is not allowed to be sold to a private guy. Even someone with a shop has to tell what he needs this paint for, proof that he owns a certain shop and sign to not give it to another, normal citizen... That's the kind of shit you have to deal with over here... Not even fertilizer or weed killer easily accessible

Is there any area on the car where there is a decent amount of original paint left ? If there is the paint shop should be able to scan it with a paint scanner and come up with a close formula. Or get a paint chip and have them mix a batch as close as they can get. I cleaned and polished the door post on my 50 C8 and used the paint chip book from a body shop to get the closest match and went with that.

I went through this last year. The paint companies are only concerned with cars made in the last 10 years or so since it is most of their business. The paint companies change out the pigments every couple years and you will find that the stores are unable to achieve the desired color using those pigments. Your best option is to have them color scan it and even then, it might not be accurate.
