As I was finishing up a re-build of a 53 Hornet engine I found the rear freeze plug was over sized compared to the other 2. First 2 were 2" dia, the 3rd was 2 1/8" dia. Has anyone seen this before? I have done several Big 6 engines and this is a first for me.

If you are talking about the actual hole in the block, no haven't seen it. Bet someone replaced it before and reamed out the hole.

Yes, the third hole in the block is oversized to 2 1/8". Actually had to trim the OD of the 2 1/8 freeze plug about .035" to get it to go in. Did it on a small lathe, very carefully and had a good interference fit.

You could have saved yourself the trouble of turning the 2-1/8" cup on the lathe by using a 2-3/32" cup, Dorman part # 555-049. https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-7345-555-049.aspx

It's what I had, so I made it work. Parts stores around here don't stock them any more, had to get it from a machine shop...

I buy almost everything online these days, less hassle and running around to stores, as well as usually being cheaper, even with shipping, if free shipping isn't offered.
