I ordered the Brice Thomas Radiator model model HUD 3401 (https://cgj.com/product/hud-3401-aluminum-hudson-radiator). I paid extra to have it painted black and have an overflow tube similar to the original installed. The pictures show that they did a pretty good job imitating the original. There were a few hiccups, but they stand by their work. The "modern" radiator cap needed is an AC Delco RC1 and the threads on the mounting tabs are 5/16-18 instead of 5/16-24. I'll re-core the old one at a later time.

Richard ---Did you also install a "pusher" electrical fan in front of the aluminum radiator (the picture shows the standard "pull" thru fan blade). My question stems from seeing that your car sports an a/c compressor and wondering if the engine overheats especially during hot weather spells?

It runs 160 degrees (Thermostat temp), BUT when in shutdown traffic with the OA temp around 90+ it will go to 190-195 with the A/C ON which is perhaps not to much since modern engines run that temp. but it makes me nervous.{Also wife does not like shutting down the A/C when in traffic !}
The reason I added a SPAL blow thru fan that operates when the A/C is on or when the temp gets to 195 or so( works off control setting). The fan on the engine is 6 blades I think I remember correctly. and the speed of the fan and water pump is with a 5" pulley( I had to build that pulley).
These engines are touchy on heat !
Note phote on fan: necessary to trim sheet metal to get fan and motor into the space. Also, DO NOT mount fan to radiator; only to braces. Nylon zips will wear holes in the aluminum flues.

good morning Mr. Chancellor, I hope this message finds your family well.
Well it's back to the rad issue. All worked out with replacement but since i have three "bad boy" hornets, i think i'll replace
the fan blades. I see the five arm fan of a ford 302 works with a spacer.. the spacer size is my issue. Any recommendations.
on a more effective fan and spacer?
Again, thanks john schulien

John,

I am afraid that I don't have an answer to your question. My 1951 Super 6 is essentially "stock". I recommend the later, "tweaked" Hudson fans (305153) used on the Hornets as a "stock" upgrade for those that want an original appearance and a bit of improvement in cooling. Richard Dryman and others who have made significant changes in the engine bay should be able to chime in on your question. However, I do know that Ken Ufheil posted on the open forum recommending an 18" 6-blade fan called the Hayden HD: https://forum.hetclub.org/discussion/comment/191983#Comment_191983 You may want to respond to that post as well and see if any recommendations on spacing come up.

I had to weld 2-5" Ford pulleys together to get water pump RPM correct; and A/C and power steering, etc all lined up.
SO, I didn't need a spacer. The pulleys spaced it out.
The important thing on a spacer beside correct width is size of the center hole; must fit.
