Did Terraplane ever use a column-shifter transmission?

Yep. It was called electric hand . Only Hudson and Cord had it.

There was a factory retro-kit for 1937's, 38's and 39's (I believe) to convert them to column shifts. (These would be similar to the set-up in 1940, with a special cast iron transmission cover that had one lever and a cable connection, which could be bolted in place of the standard cover with the floor shift lever). But, aside of the Electric Hand or this retro kit, a customer could not purchase a "factory" Terraplane with a mechanical column shift lever.
