Hey all, came across this 1940 pu that has porthole windows also. I’ve seen Ute trucks with second sets of windows just never round like that. Curious if anyone has come across something like this or is it a custom job? Thanks for any info.

As you probably know, the true Australian ute would have a bed whose outer panels extend the profile of the front door all the way back to the tailgate -- similar to the design of the above Australian-built 1937 ute.

I think that the pickup you're picturing is a custom, done by someone in order to gain a bit more legroom. I've seen this done locally, where a gentleman took a brougham (2-door coach, with wider front doors) and spliced the rear portion and bed from a Hudson pickup, to it. The additional width of the doors gave the cab much more legroom, and in fact the fellow even had room to store the spare tire behind his seatback.

In your case, someone has spliced the rear of a pickup cab and then somehow added a flat panel, into which he cut an elliptical window. I think that the doors on the red truck are from a 4-door (or even a pickup).

Thanks for the info Jon! I've only seen pictures of a couple of Australian Hudson trucks, and in fact did not even know they existed until recently. I really appreciate the detailed explanation & picture. They are very helpful as I am constantly learning and have been away from Hudsons for some time.

Aussie trucks will be RHD! I can't ascertain the steering wheel side on my phone.

Thanks David! I didn't even think of that. You can't see in this picture, but it is a LHD. In hindsight, this was kind of a silly question. I guess that is how you learn!
