I'm diving into the rewiring of my Club Coupe. I'm doing the little stuff first. One of the first things I noticed is that the rheostat that controls the instrument panel lighting is almost impossible to rotate. i put my meter on it and it reads 2.2 K Ohms full clockwise and as soon as I rotate it counterclockwise its an open circuit. I'm trying to find a replacement but I am not sure 2.2 K Ohms is the actual spec. There is no part number on the switch or any indication of the current rating or resistance range. Has anyone replaced one of these puppies or know what should replace this one? Thank you very much.

Let me know if you need one Dean.
Lance,
Do you know what the maximum reading of this rheostat should be. I'm just curious.

No Per I do not. Wish I could help.
new instrument panel lighting rheostats are available from MAC'S; https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_mercury_early/instrument-panel-dimmer-switch-butterscotch-knob-ford-super-deluxe.html
This part looks just like mine and it makes sense that it was originally for a Ford application. The whole electrical system in the Stepdown was Autolite.

Price is right, prompt delivery, fit like it was supposed to, a big improvement over an inoperative rheostat.
A big thank you to Mr. Ufheil for sharing the source info!
