My 1954 Hornet has a Twin H throttle linkage (manual transmission) with a spring wrapped around the lever that rotates when the accelerator is depressed. The spring just turns loosely, and I can't see how it could possibly do anything. Meanwhile, even though each carb has a substantial return spring, the throttle does not quite return to idle when the accelerator is released slowly.
I added a Mickey Mouse return spring between the pedal rod and the wiper motor which corrects the problem, but I want to do it correctly.
I bought a replacement spring for the throttle linkage, but I can't figure out how to take the throttle linkage apart to remove the old spring and replace it. The rod that goes through the broken spring seems to be welded or press fitted on.
Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Thanks.
The picture will show you how the linkage should be configured.
