The plant is presently owned by GM. I think it is part of their Drive Line division. I think it is one of the plants designated for closure. Anyone know for sure. I am interested as my father worked there during the war and never left until Ford moved out around 1958. I worked there in the early 50s when it was Ford Chassis Parts Division.

Looks like there are no members from the Detroit area that are familiar with the Nine Mile Road and Mound Road facility. Would really like to know if GM is going to shut it down. It was originally a Hudson operation and is a part of Hudson history.

Lets hope they don't shut it down Gene. Need to preserve as much Hudson history as possible.

Have you tried Ken Poynter, John or Ken Regnerus or Doug Markham? All are long time members of HET and Detroit area residents.

I think Ken's father also worked there during the war years. Hudson was responsible for the design and original operation of the plant. Westinghouse took it over in the middle of the war. It went back to the Navy after the war for a short while. Ford leased it till about 1958. My father was the last man out and retired from Ford. The plant then went back to the Navy and I understand it was sold to GM. If GM is closing it, I wonder what will happen to it.

I just read that tomorrow is the last day of production at the 9 mile and Mound plant for GM. It built a 6 speed automatic for a Cadillac and the Chevrolet Impala which are both being discontinued. I wonder what will happen to it. The article said that the plant was 78 years old. That makes sense as Hudson opened it in 1940. Their main product was the Oreliken 20mm anti aircraft gun which was made under license. The HET Historical Society has a couple articles about the plant. Sorry to see it go.
