Is anyone aware of a conversion to change a 1956 308 to a dry clutch and possibly a ford? overdrive transmission with open drive. Looking to replace the Hudson od trans with the soft main shaft.

hello Dennis. The answer to your question is yes. There are several questions you should think about in your quest. First, why are you wanting to change this. The wet cork clutch is different, but works fine. It works good enough to twist the input shaft, break an axle, rip the center driveshaft cushions out, etc,.. The input shaft isn't really soft for normal use, but Continuous hole shots will tear everything up! ask how i know?. When you describe a '56 308, is it in a '56 car?. That is already a dry clutch system. If it is in a Step-down car, has it been converted to a wet clutch with the correct conversion flywheel, or has the crankshaft from the '51 -'54 been installed?. I ask that question because the flange of the crankshaft to flywheel is a different size, making the parts different. If you are wanting something to just cruise in,and just have some fun, no reason to convert it, you just have to have good components, clutch, rebuilt 3spd.with overdrive trans.,u-joints, and rear end. etc..
I thought Dany Spring had the an auto trans adapter, and Russ Maas at one point was going to make a stick modern trans adapter to convert to a Tremic type 5-6 spd. Needless to say, regardless what you use, everything requires $$$ and time.
With all this said, nothing like the torque and power the Big 6 Hudson makes. If it is equipped with a Twin-H set-up, opening the hood will draw a crowd everytime! Happy Hudsoning!

FYI
As Doug mentioned Danny Spring in Ca, Randy Maas in Il, and Wilcap make Trans adapters for Auto and Std. Maas & Spring are on this Forum and Wilcap Adapters is online in Ca.
In the 60's Dirt Modified Hornets with Stroker Cranks and/or Huge Slicks had to run a Ford Clutch & Trans because the Hudson Input shaft would Twist.from the additional torque....

I have a 56 308 going into a fenderless 27 Ford T sedan hotrod I was looking to find a dry clutch setup and info on converting to a Ford? OD 3 speed trans. I do not currently have a clutch/flywheel or trans at this time. Looking to go to open driveline on this car. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
