Incredibly dumb question time: I am getting my engine rebuilt (1951 Pacemaker), pulled it out today, have removed pressure plate and clutch disk and the 6 nuts securing the flywheel to the crank, and now find the flywheel laughing at my efforts to remove it. I've been going kinda slow and soft -- it's a pretty thin flywheel, don't want to warp or damage it -- and I checked the shop manual, but they don't show any kind of puller or anything for the flywheel (except for the pilolt bearing). Am I overlooking something, or has anyone had similar issues and come up with ingenious solutions that I can try?
Thanks to all.
John, Likely this flywheel was last off this car in 1951 so if you get a rubber mallet and give it a few wacks it will pop . Those kind of problems weren't addressed in the shop manual because 67 years had not elapsed and they could not have forseen that.
Thanks. My inclination was to give it a whack, but thought I should verify before taking that course of action!
Related questions (if I may): for reassembly, i should seal the bolts to the crank and also the gasket to the pressure plate and flywheel. What are the modern recommendations for sealers to use?
Thanks again!
