Changing the 308 motor out of my 1954 with a 308 out of a 1953. The problem is that I cannot get cranksaft tail bushing out . Any sugeastions /or can you purchase this somewhere?
They are still available. Just look around the internet. They are usually about $5-$15. Remember the hydramatic is a GM transmission.
Fill the cavity with real heavy grease then push in a large bolt should push out the bushing…
As Chuck has described, use a bolt. The bolt needs to fit tightly into the hole, but not catch the bushing. As described, take your grease gun and fill the hole until it is full to the outer edge. Hold the bolt over the hole, taking a hammer or equivalent, hit the bolt, driving it into the bushing. You might lay a rag or paper towel over the bolt so it doesn't squirt grease at you. Each time you hit the bolt, it will obviously press the grease back out. Re-fill the hole, stick the bolt back in, drive it again. Each time you hit it, it hydraulically presses the bushing out. After enough times, the bushing will finally pop out.
Installing the new bushing, make sure you use a sufficient driver, preferably a real bushing driver, and make sure you do not damage the bushing on the outside of the inside. Remember, it is a brass bushing and will damage very easy. We sell the bushing for these at www.wrphet.com
