Give us some history. Did this suddenly happen? Was the starter overhauled ?Is there oil on the spiral?

Yes starter was built. I can't get the drive to unengage. It's spun in. It spins but does not engage the flywheel. I have tried all I know to do.

Jeff, The bendix pictured is NOT correct for your starter. The gear teeth will not retract far enough to disengage from the flywheel. It will be a screeching racket. Worse you will play havoc getting it removed from your car. The origional one is much shorter. Call me if you need help getting a correct one. 704 792 911zero.

Joe

You do know that the big drive in your picture is wrong and is also mounted wrong. The smaller one looks like a hydro starter drive and should be mounted the other way also. I'm guessing you have a standard tranny.

You might be able to get the 2 drives fixed by mounting them correctly and tapping the starter with 6v (off the car)
