Greetings Club Members!

I've been a long-time member of the Pontic-Oakland Club International, and have owned old cars for 31 years, mostly Pontiacs. Until the day before yesterday, that is! That was the day we acquired a 1957 Hudson Hornet Custom. This car has been in Tucumcari, New Mexico its entire life, and owned by the local Hudson dealer exclusively. The car sat in the dealership building for the last 42 years until we rescued it on the afternoon of May 26th. She is very solid, and very complete and original. I have washed the car and cleaned the interior. I hope to see if she will run today.

Anyway, I realize some don't consider this car a "real" Hudson, but we are thrilled to own such a unique car with a great local history. I look forward to learning all about it, and cruising in the new car.

For now, I will enjoy browsing the forum and looking at all the HET Club has to offer. I joined this morning.

Hope to see some of you on the road sometime!

Kevin Mueller
Tucumcari, New Mexico

Kevin, welcome !

My dad's second Hudson was a 56 Hornet. Still loved the car. Your's has the V8 as they didn't have a 6 that year (1957). Please post pictures --and what an interesting history! Some of those were the tri-tone colors, what is yours?

Kevin,
You are in good company. Glad to hear you are now a Hudson owner. I'm sure you will find the Club to be a wonderful experience. There are a great deal of "Hash " owners in the club ., If I found one like yours.. I would be an owner too!

I tried to attach a photo, but I guess it didn't work. Here's a link to our facebook page with lots of photos:

You can find the Hudson photos in an album called "The Blue Swallow Fleet."

I look forward to learning more about this car through this excellent forum.

Thanks!

Kevin,

Love your 57 Hornet! I have a 56 Super Wasp that is the same color as the center color on your car. Eventually, hope to see a lot more pictures of the engine and interior on this lovely car and to hear the story about this unique find.

Tim

Kevin,
Welcome to the Club...and NICE looking car! I see you have had contact with Paul S.- just bought some nice mirrors from him for my wife's '54 Hudson Super Jet. He knows his stuff, and has a beautiful '57. Had to check out your Facebook page and some things struck me. Blue Swallow sounded familiar...the Detroit Lions helmet on the fridge...Is that a Michigan plate on the Bonne?
Are you originally from Brighton, Michigan? I am the head football coach at Grand Blanc, and believe my team played against your son a few years ago.
Good choice on the Club--lots of info here. I have been a member for close to 30 years, and members of this club helped me get my '30 Essex back on the road, and led me to the '54 Jet that I purchased for my wife last August.

Joe Delaney
(wife's name is Donna, and I believe she and your wife Nancy are cousins)

Kevin, welcome aboard! My entrance into the HET Club has been great experience. Can't say enough about all the help I've received so far. My wife and I went to the Front Royal Meet and had really welcoming experience. Like they say. "Come for the cars, Stay for the People" Your car looks really nice.

Yes, hello! What a small world! Both Cameron and Cory played football against you guys, Cory also played Rugby and Cameron was a baseball player.
Cory is now a Senior at CMU, and has continued to play rugby.

I hope to see if the Hornet will turn over tomorrow. Filled the radiator, and that appears to be leaking from either the water pump or the lower hose.

I'm sure that there will be lots of other leaks too, if she runs at all!

Welcome to the wacky world of HET, Kevin & Nancy. I've been hanging around this bunch of nut cases for a bit over 40 years and consider it my family. I've always said that HET is family that happens to like Hudsons - the National meets are family reunions with cars to enjoy. I hope you enjoy you new ride and it gives you many, many years of enjoyment.

Welcome, Kevin.

A lot of us used to consider Hashes "not true Hudsons" until we got older and began to appreciate all the niceties that they offer (smooth ride, reclining seats, AC, power brakes and steering, electric windows, etc etc). Now, Hashes are embraced by many former detractors!

I know Mr. Arnold Landvoigt who lives in the Washington DC area and is involved in running the Early Times Chapter of the POCI.

Good to hear that these cars are more accepted. I'm begining to like mine, although I did hook up a battery this morning, and she did nothing. Lights and warning lights, but nothing else. The horn honked when I hooked up the battery, but wouldn't honk with the horn ring. I'll have a look at the starter first, in hopes that maybe the engine isn't simply stuck. IF so, I'm going to have to find an engine shop out here somewhere.

Arn and his wife were here last year on their way to the Flathead Reunion West last year.

Kevin, have you ever started the Hudson? I know the 56 has the starter tied in to the shift lever. You have to turn the key on and lift up on the lever to kick in the solenoid. Different than other cars.

Kerry is right, and the 57 would be the same way. Turn the key and then lift the lever towards you. The instructions are on the shift knob.

wow.. I learn something new every day... then forget at least two things!! LOL. I can't imagine how long it would take me to trace that down with a voltmeter and ohm meter..

I had no idea! That is certainly different. I've been discouraged today, but I will try again and see what happens. Thanks for the help!
