Have 1935 Terraplane with 212 engine. Water pump has grease zert. What kind of grease should be used and how much and how often ?
Bill,
The grease fitting on my 1935 Hudson has a relief valve on it. I slowly put grease in with a hand gun, until it starts to come out of the valve, which means there is enough grease in there. I use ordinary chassis grease.

I have a 35 Terraplane with the 212. My water pump just has the zerk and no relief valve. I use water resistant grease that is used on boat trailer wheel bearings. Any auto parts store will have it. Very carefully only pump grease into the zerk until you feel a slight resistance. Do not force grease into the fitting or you can damage the seal. Better to put a little in and run it to see if you can slow the leak down than blow out the seal. Mine still leaks but it is slow enough that I can deal with it. By the way, you did not say if yours was leaking? If it is not then only put a pump or two in it and leave it alone.
It sure would be better if you have a relief valve like Per does.
My two cents.---
My 39 has a 212 and the water pump has a grease fitting. I have not thought of water proof grease. Thanks for the advice that I may piggy back from.
Mike,
My water pump does not have a relief valve either. Will get some boat trailer bearing grease and follow your instructions. Had this car about 5 weeks and trying to learn how to care for it.
Thanks again,
Bill
I'm sure the trailer grease is fine these days but this what it should have:
Ebay search: CASTROL CLASSIC Water Pump Grease - 500g - 1610
It's much thicker and doesn't separate.
