The only things the previous owner did to my Wasp were replacing the tires last year and getting the turn-key ignition fixed by a locksmith (I guess it was stuck? Not sure why exactly). However, they didn't reinstall the ignition, just left it in the glovebox for me with a mess of wires behind the dash.

Eventually the old wiring will be replaced but for now I just want to install it and test it. But I'm no electrician and I'm having trouble figuring out how this should be wired up and which wire is which. Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello Mike. I see you are located in Indiana?. I don't know how close you are to us, but you are more than welcome to come by and take a picture of one of our cars to use as a comparison.
A simple continuity tester will give you most of the information you require. It looks like the wiring still has enough color to them you can probably identify them from the book. A wiring schematic/diagram is also available at the HET club website.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in NW Indiana (LaPorte) so it's a bit of a drive to where you are but I'm sure we'll meet eventually.

Update: Got ahold of a manual and found the wiring diagram. It was a little hard to distinguish the colors but I got the switch wired in correctly. The engine's cranking, just not firing. Progress though! Now to the much bigger task of getting it to fire and run...

Mike, turn the key to the on position and simply take a test light see if you have power at the ignition coil?. If you do, put the test light on the distributor side of the coil, briefly crank it over. The light should turn on and off as the point open and close. If it doesn't, look no further than the points. Sitting for a short few months can cause the point contact face to slightly corrode and cause no actual contact, just look like they are working. I hope this helps!
